Integration through housing – the issues:
Integration through housing is a sensitive area as it lies at the very heart of various different economic, political and human issues. Housing is not just the cornerstone of the association’s work - it is also a strategic means of aiding integration and for combating discrimination.
Access to housing is a fundamental right and underlies all of the association’s work: where and how should we build? How should people leave temporary housing offered by Aralis and where should they be moving to? These two questions form the cornerstone both for our work and our partnerships: the form of the living environment, the location of the accommodation, the nature of the support provided, the quality of the partnerships, the residents' own place in the scheme of things and right to be heard… these are all constant concerns driven by the political and operational levels. Providing temporary housing only makes sense if it allows the person involved to recover his or her rights and ability to live somewhere which fits in with his or her needs and budget.
So accommodation is offered on a temporary basis - it is designed to be a launch-pad to integration and towards common law housing.
